In a significant crackdown on cybercrimes targeting the entertainment industry, Korea's Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency (NGPPA) collaborated with the global entertainment powerhouse HYBE to apprehend eight suspects involved in the creation and distribution of deepfake content. This coordinated effort underscores the industry's determination to safeguard the reputation and rights of its artists.

Following a Memorandum of Understanding signed in February 2024, HYBE and the NGPPA have joined forces in a strategic move to fight deepfake crimes. In this case, the focus was on unauthorized, altered content featuring HYBE Music Group artists.

"HYBE will respond firmly to crimes that infringe on our artists’ portrait rights and reputations, based on a zero-tolerance and no-settlement policy," he stated. Lee added that HYBE will continue monitoring the situation and pursue all legal avenues to eliminate such cybercrimes.

District Chief Ho-seung Kim of the NGPPA also reassured the public that the investigation would persist. He noted that deepfake crimes are particularly challenging since celebrities often struggle to report such offenses, making the enforcement efforts all the more crucial.
